Bob was a loving husband, father and grandfather who never knew a stranger. Friendships that last to this day often started with Bob’s genuinely welcoming handshake (or hug) followed by a spirited conversation. A die-hard history buff and avid reader, Bob often challenged his listeners, including his dear wife of 30 years, “If you don’t believe me, look it up!”
Bob was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on August 30,1947 to Jean Allen and Agnes Lorene (Owens) Martin.
Bob attended North High School in Denver, Colorado before joining the Army in 1965. He served in the military honorably until 1969 and received many service medals and awards including two Bronze Stars. Serving in the Army during the Vietnam War represented a profound commitment to duty, honor and country for Bob. As a veteran, Bob took immense pride in his active membership with the VFW, where he continued to serve his fellow veterans and honor the sacrifices made for our country.
Bob had a successful career in real estate and retail management before retiring in 2010. He was an active member of Risen Savior Lutheran Church in Colorado and Our Savior Lutheran Church in Wyoming and served as a board member.
Bob met the love of his life, Claudia, during high school. However, love would have to be patient. The two reunited years later and were married on New Year’s Eve in 1994 at Risen Savior Lutheran Church in Broomfield, Colorado.
In 2012, Bob and Claudia moved to Torrington, Wyoming to pursue their long-time dream of establishing an organic farm. Together they successfully pursued this dream, literally from the ground up, until 2019 when Bob’s health began to limit his ability. Throughout the years of living on and working the farm, one of Bob’s greatest joys was being a devoted mentor to his grandsons Alexander and Micheal who often visited and assisted with everything from equipment repair and preparing the fields to feeding the chickens and just listening to “Opa” tell his stories.
Bob is survived by his wife Claudia S. Martin, son Guy, two daughters Sarah and Brook, five grandchildren, Alexander, Michael, Madison, Kennedy and Zachary, one great grandchild, Wrenley Page and numerous relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his son Adam, brother Donald and his parents, Jean Allen and Agnes Lorene (Owens) Martin.
Paul Sr. spent his childhood on their family dairy farm in Hampstead, Maryland. His career consisted of working at his family excavating and paving business. Sr. also remained involved in the livestock and farming industry, where he enjoyed feeding cattle and growing crops. Following he and Patricia’s move to Wyoming, he spent much of his time traveling around Goshen County and surrounding areas for his metal recycling business.
Paul Sr. is survived by his two sons and their families: Kevin David Miller (Deborah) of Spring Grove, Pennsylvania and Paul David Miller Jr. (Christine) of Torrington, Wyoming. He adored all 5 of his grandchildren: Shane David Miller (Lauren), Justin David Miller (Lauren), Paul David Miller III, Skyler David Miller (Makenna), and Paige Joy Miller. Sr. was also proud to be the great-grandfather of Alden David Miller (of Shane and Lauren) and Amelia Lee Miller (of Skyler and Makenna).
His family will miss their “Pop” and “Poppop” dearly and are so blessed to have spent many wonderful years with him.
An informal celebration of life will be held on Thursday, May 2, 2024, from 4 to 7 PM, in the Brand Room, at the Goshen County Fairgrounds in Torrington.
In lieu of flowers, donations in honor of Paul Sr. will be accepted to assist youth in agriculture.
