Torrington, WY (by Cindy Sheeley) May 12th, 2024 — Eastern Wyoming College held its seventy-fifth annual commencement ceremonies on Friday, May 10th, at the Torrington Campus. The 126 graduates who attended the ceremony were split into two groups, one in the morning and the other in the afternoon.

The total number of graduates honored at the commencement was 194 for the spring and summer 2024 semesters and winter 2023.

Among EWC staff and faculty, Governor of Wyoming Mark Gordon, the first commencement speaker, spoke about the importance of education and congratulated the graduates for their achievements.

“I want to take a moment to consider where we are today,” Gordon said. “I always find graduation fascinating for the reason that at graduation ceremonies each of the participants is wearing an identical black robe. By appearance, there isn’t a lot that distinguishes us from one another.”

“True we are all individuals with our own character, experiences, ambitions, and desires; but none of this is apparent under this black robe,” he continued. “I have always thought that there is a message here in today’s celebration. It’s what we do from here, based on what is inside and what we have been clothed with within our education.”

“From here a new journey begins,” Gordon said. “As a Lancer, you can be confident in the experience you have gained here, comfortable that your instructors and professors have done an amazing job, and content that values you carry with you has made you ready for your next steps. Remember always the support of your family, your friends, your community, and especially your professors.”

Congratulations to all of the EWC graduates!
