Washington, D.C. (RELEASE) January 31st, 2024 — Today, the House Committee on Homeland Security voted to transmit articles of impeachment against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to a vote of the full House of Representatives for his failure to uphold his oath of office to protect and defend our nation and adhere to the Constitution. The articles of impeachment are based on willful and systemic refusal to comply with the law, and breach of public trust – violations that meet the threshold of ‘high crimes and misdemeanors’, as set forth in our Constitution.
Representative Hageman stated, “Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas has violated his oath of office by willfully failing to secure our borders. He has lied to Congress each and every time he has been before us – claiming that the border is secure when now even his border invasion accomplice, Joe Biden, admits there is a crisis. Allowing 8.3 million illegals to enter our country since January 21, 2021, is cruel and inhumane, endangers lives, and crushes economies.
This administration inherited a secure border from Donald Trump and then immediately set out to dismantle what was working by issuing 94 Executive Actions related to the border within their first 100 days in office. Secretary Mayorkas has carried out these actions with allegiance to the President, not to the Constitution. This gross negligence and willful refusal to secure our border and uphold our laws has led to today’s articles of impeachment.
“Because of these maneuvers by Biden and Mayorkas, Republicans in the House of Representatives took action and passed legislation way back in May that would secure our borders and end the invasion by passing H.R. 2 – where has the Schumer Senate been?
“For over three years Joe Biden and Alejandro Mayorkas have done everything possible – through executive branch actions alone – to make our borders less secure. Now, Biden says that he cannot fix what he broke without the senate passing legislation? How dumb does he think the American people are?
“I look forward to voting for the impeachment of Biden’s failed henchman, Alejandro Mayorkas.”
As a reminder, The Border Security Act Of 2023 would:
- Force the Biden Administration to restart construction of the border wall
- Deploy technology to the southern and northern border
- Increase the number of Border Patrol agents and provide bonus pay
- Require transparency regarding illegal crossings from the Department of Homeland Security
- Strengthen current law to protect unaccompanied children from human trafficking
- End catch and release
- End abuse of executive immigration authority
- Strengthen and streamline the asylum process
