Torrington, WY (by Shad Bates) March 7th, 2024 — The Torrington Trailblazers will, for the first time ever, field a girl’s fast-pitch softball team this spring.  The Trailblazers will play a junior varsity division during their inaugural season and are slated for 20 games, 5 of which will be played in Torrington.

Leading the Trailblazers is Head Coach Robin Schainost.  Schainost is no stranger to leading a high school softball team as she was the head coach in Beatrice, NE for 9 years prior to returning to Goshen County to teach and coach at Southeast.  While in Beatrice, Schainost led her team to back-to-back state championships and a runner-up finish.

When asked about her expectations this year, Schainost stated “This will be a learning year for us, the girls need to learn how I coach, my style, my expectations – and I need to learn the girls.”  Focusing on fundamentals will be key for the 14-girl roster.  “Fundamentals and learning the game are so important,” Schainost stated while talking about her excitement for the upcoming season.

Schainost is very invested in the Trailblazer softball program as evident by her commitment to coaching the local Torrington Thunder 10U softball travel team this summer.  Schainost indicated that most of the Trailblazer team will compete this summer on the Thunder 16U team where they will be able to hone their skills and continue to improve their play on the softball diamond.

Given the excitement, commitment, and high school softball coaching experience of Head Coach Schainost, it is safe to say the Trailblazer softball team is in very good hands.
