Torrington Council Approves Road Improvement Projects, Vehicle Purchases

Torrington, WY November 8, 2023 — The Torrington City Council approved a handful of expenditures at this week’s meeting.

For months, City staff members have been trying to weigh options for the purchase of a vactor truck. Council members unanimously approved the declaration of an emergency for the purchase of a vactor truck, and the vehicle will be purchased from Kois Equipment Co.

City Clerk/Treasurer Lynette Strecker informed the council that the city received $509,662 from the insurance company for the claim on the old truck. The purchase agreement for the new vactor truck is for $542,141. $32,479 will come out of reserve. The Council unanimously approved the purchase of the new vehicle.

Council members also considered the purchase of a new roll-off truck for the Streets & Sanitation Department. The purchase of a roll-off truck from Shell Equipment Company in the amount of $227,875 was unanimously approved.  

Torrington Council members considered a couple of bids for road improvement projects at this week’s council meeting.The council approved awarding a bid to Topkote, Inc. of Yankton, SD in the amount of $220,000 for a Chip Seal Placement project on East G, East H, and East I streets which will be completed by September of next year.

Council members also approved a bid from Highway Improvements of Sioux Falls, SD in the amount of $100,000 for a Crack Fill Project on East B and East C Street which will be completed by March of 2024.

The Council also proclaimed next week as national apprenticeship week in Torrington. The importance of registered apprenticeships was recognized as a way to enable employers to develop and train their future workforce while offering career seekers affordable paths to secure high-paying jobs. After the council approved the proclamation, Electrical Supervisor Dana Youtz recognized his apprentice Ben Cantu.
