Grace was born November 23, 1928 in Port Lavaca, Texas the daughter of George and Lillian (Blalack) Barnett. She had five brothers and one sister. Because her father was a carpenter, the family moved quite frequently around the state of Texas. At age sixteen she went to work at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. She had the good fortune to meet Lewis Snyder, who was stationed at Fort Sam Houston. They were married on Valentine’s Day in 1947. After Lewis got out of the army, they moved to eastern Nebraska, and later to the Torrington, Wyoming area. They lived for many years outside of Huntley where Lewis was a farmer and Grace was a homemaker taking care of their three daughters. After the family moved to town in late 1963, she worked at several places including JC Penney and Stroud’s Grocery store. From 1970 to 1979, she and Lewis owned their grocery store in town, Snyder’s Grocery. After they closed the store, she went to work at Torrington Beverage until she finally retired in the early 2000’s.

Always on the go, Grace was involved in many things, including, the VFW Auxiliary. She was a 4-H leader for years and later helped make bonnets at the Senior Friendship Center. She was an avid reader, she crocheted and loved watching football.

Grace is survived by her sister Patsy of San Antonio, Texas; daughter Gail of Torrington; six grandchildren, many great grandchildren; and even more great-great grandchildren.
