(RELEASE) April 16th, 2024 — Today, Congresswoman Harriet Hageman joined Speaker Mike Johnson and ten House of Representatives colleagues to deliver Articles of Impeachment against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to the Senate. Representative Hageman will serve as an impeachment manager for any Senate trial of Secretary Mayorkas.

Rep. Hageman stated, “Secretary Mayorkas has violated his oath of office and is derelict in his obligation to keep us safe from enemies foreign and domestic. The two articles of impeachment were filed in response to his willful and systemic refusal to comply with – and violation of — federal immigration laws, and breach of the public trust.

“Despite Democrat assertions, this is a serious and detailed impeachment that deserves to be heard by the Senators – and by the American people. There have been 21 impeachments in the history of the United States House of Representatives – none were simply dismissed without a trial by the Senate.

“The Secretary is not being impeached due to “differences in policy.” He has committed multiple impeachable offenses and must be held accountable. The Senate has an obligation to hold a trial, to hear evidence presented, and to seriously deliberate after the evidence is heard. This is not theater; it is a solemn duty that has been followed in all twenty-one prior impeachments. Now is not the time for the Senate to set precedent or be derelict in its duty.”
