Torrington, WY (by Shad Bates) March 21st, 2024 — Eastern Wyoming College celebrated its 75th year anniversary by inviting the pubic to an open house on Wednesday evening.  The open house allowed community members to interact with faculty, staff, and students, while learning more about Eastern Wyoming College, both past and present.

Eastern Wyoming College opened in 1948 as an extension of the University of Wyoming and was called Southeast University Center.  The Southeast University Center had humble beginnings with only 16 full time students and 2 instructors.

Over the course of the next 20 years the Southeast University Center saw a slow transition in becoming named Eastern Wyoming College.  A year later, in 1969, Eastern Wyoming College moved from a one story brownstone on East A Street to their current location on West C Street.  The unique building has allowed for additions to both ends of the building to accommodate an increase in students, staff and programs offered.

Eastern Wyoming College has grown from 16 students and 2 instructors to 2,000 students and 8 professors with 8 assistant professors.  In addition to academics, Eastern Wyoming College offers student athletes the opportunity to participate in Rodeo, Basketball, Golf, Volleyball, Esports and more.  The women’s golf team will be joining the athletic department in the fall of 2024.

Eastern Wyoming College has been an essential part of the Torrington community for 75 years, offering many community education classes, higher education opportunities, as well as a robust athletic department for sports enthusiasts.  Congratulations to the faculty, staff and students of Eastern Wyoming College, past and present.
