Birchell finished at the top of the leaderboard with a -7, followed by Sugawara and Chapman in a tie for second with a -5, Suttka finished in fourth with a -2, and Braylon Bingham finished in a tie for fifth with a -1. Fellow Lancer Jax Oviatt finished in a tie for eighth and teammate Jordan Hunt finished in a tie for 10th with a +1.

“I’m so proud of the way the guys played both days. They keep getting better and better and you never know who is going to step up each day,” EWC head golf coach Zach Smith said. “Tytan and Josh played great the second day, helping Tytan get the individual win. Taiki has continued to play great golf. Leander had a great first day.”

Other Lancers competing in the home tournament included Coltin Powell, Ryker Dunkley, Mathis Fortin, Tyler Wallace, and Tyler Fraser.

“We have so many guys playing great golf right now, it’s a blast to watch,” Smith said.

The Lancers finished the tournament in first place shooting a -21, followed by Otero College with a +9, Central Wyoming College with a +12, McCook Community College with a +22, Northeastern Junior College with a +37, and Lamar Community College with a +44.

“Last fall we set a team record at -16 par, tied it last week and this week they shattered it by shooting -21 par,” Smith said.

Smith also said he was very thankful to a former Lancer golfer and rodeo student, Denton Shaw, for helping coach the Lancers during part of the second round when Smith had to leave due to a family medical emergency.

“We are lucky to have so many community members and former Lancer golfers that show us great support every year,” Smith added.

The Lancers are preparing for the region championship in Pueblo, Colorado on April 25-26.
