A friendly competition between the Torrington Police Department and Torrington Volunteer Fire Department brought a record number of blood donors.

The Guns and Hoses Blood Drive held in Torrington on Monday, July 30th, was a huge success. With a friendly competition between the Torrington Police Department and the Torrington Volunteer Fire Department, the drive allowed blood donors to choose which first responder department they were donating on behalf of. According to a representative with the Wyoming Division of United Blood Services, this event brought forth the largest turnout in the history of Torrington’s community blood drives, with a total of 102 units of blood being donated.

With fifty-seven individuals donating on their behalf, it was the Torrington Volunteer Fire Department that came out on top.

“I thought it was a neat idea. It was great that so many community members came out to help for a great cause,” said TVFD Chief, Lance Petsch.

This won’t be the last Goshen County will see of the Guns and Hoses blood drive, as this will become an annual event, complete with a travelling trophy.
