Scottsbluff, NE (RELEASE) March 5th, 2024 — The Scotts Bluff County Sheriff’s Office received information of several dogs locked in a camper trailer located at Captain Critters Country Campground west of Scottsbluff. The reporting party described the conditions as “horrible with feces everywhere” and didn’t see any food or water for the dogs.

At around 1035 hours on Monday, Deputies and Investigators from the Scotts Bluff County Sheriff’s Office served a search warrant on a camper trailer located at the campground and recovered 21 dogs.

The dogs included Chihuahuas, Dachshunds, Boxers, Labradoodles, and Saint Bernards, along with puppies born within the last few days, as they hadn’t opened their eyes yet.

The dogs were found locked into cages with no food or water, laying in their own urine and feces.  The larger breeds were locked into cages they could barely stand-up in. There were puppies stuck inside dog carriers with no food or water, the bottom of the carrier covered in their own urine and feces.

The dogs were secured and transported to the Panhandle Humane Society, where they will be given full examination, treatment and bathed.

As a result of the investigation, Jaydee Sims, age 45, and Sadonya Sims, age 40, both of Lyman, were arrested by the Scotts Bluff County Sheriff’s Office.  They were transported to the Scotts Bluff County Detention Center, where they were charged with 21 counts each of Cruelty to Animals.

Assisting with the investigation were the Scotts Bluff County Sheriff’s Office, Scottsbluff Police Department, Animal Health Center, the Panhandle Humane Society, and Nebraska Department of Agriculture.
