Torrington Looking for First Football Championship Since 1990

Torrington, WY November 7, 2023 — The Torrington Trailblazers will head to Laramie on Friday to take on the Big Horn Rams in the 2023 2A High School Football State Championship at War Memorial Stadium.

Kickoff is scheduled for 12:00.

This will be the 3rd State Championship appearance for the Blazers in the last 6 years. Under Head Coach Mark Lenhardt in 2018, the Blazers lost to Star Valley 35-14 in the 3A State Championship. Then in 2020, Head Coach Russell Stienmetz and the Blazers couldn’t overcome Lyman in the 2A State Championship at Wiseman Field (14-3).

Coach Stienmetz and company have a chance to get their first title in 2A, and their first football title of any kind since 1990 – but the Rams from Big Horn are no stranger to playoff football.

Since 2018, Big Horn has won 3 State Championships under Head Coach Kirk McLaughlin. The Rams will try to defend their title from last year after defeating Lovell in the 2022 2A State Championship 8-7.

The Trailblazers gave Big Horn all they wanted in conference play this year. The Rams ended up with the win at Wiseman Field on September 22nd, 32-27.

One could expect a game much similar this Friday at the War. According to wyopreps.com, the Rams and the Blazers boast the 1st and 4th highest ranked offenses in 2A respectively. Here’s a look at how Torrington and Big Horn stack up in 2A football statistics in Wyoming:
