Torrington, WY October 27, 2023 — The Torrington Police Department is warning residents of a recent scam that was reported by a City of Torrington Utilities customer.

A City of Torrington utilities customer received a scam phone call this week from a person who was not a City of Torrington employee, claiming to be with the Utilities Department. The scam caller advised the person that they were due a significant refund, and offered to transfer them to another department so that they could get their money.

This is a classic scam structure where criminals try to tempt you to give out personal financial information in exchange for a refund.

Don’t fall for their tricks! The City of Torrington, or any other legitimate business, will never call you and ask for your personal financial information.
